Union Health Foundation hosted a reception to unveil the Physician Memorial Wall at Union Hospital Terre Haute to honor the memory and service of physicians who dedicated their careers to providing compassionate care to the communities. The event took place on Wednesday April 30th in the Lower-Level Atrium of Union Hospital, where attendees gathered to celebrate the contributions of these esteemed health care professionals.

The newly unveiled memorial wall pays tribute to licensed physicians who practiced at Union Health. The permanent display recognizes their exceptional service and lasting impact on the Wabash Valley. Steve Holman, President and CEO of Union Health System, stated: "Today, we come together to honor those who have devoted themselves to the health and well-being of others. The Physician’s Memorial Wall stands as a symbol of gratitude for the lives and commitments of these remarkable individuals, reminding us of the values that shaped our mission at Union Health. We are deeply thankful for the families and loved ones who join us in this poignant moment of remembrance."

The memorial wall is a tribute to the invaluable contributions made by physicians who have been a vital part of Union Health’s commitment to health care excellence. It serves as both a physical representation of their impactful work and a source of comfort for families.”

Dr. Kathleen Coutinho, Chief of Staff at Union Health, shared: "The physicians honored on this wall are the very essence of compassion and dedication. They not only changed the lives of their patients but also shaped the future of health care in our community. Their legacy lives on in the hearts of those they have touched. As we unveil this memorial, let it remind us to carry forward their spirit of service and excellence in everything we do."

Becky Miller, President of Union Health Foundation, concluded the ceremony with closing reflections, stating: "Thank you to all who have come to honor our esteemed physicians and support the mission of Union Health. The wall is divided into two sections: four plaques honor physicians who served the first 60 years, while individual plaques recognize those since the 1960’s who dedicated service at Union Health. This memorial is a living tribute, and we welcome recommendations for additions to ensure it remains relevant. Contributions made in memory of these physicians will directly support initiatives that honor their lasting legacy."

As part of the memorial unveiling, attendees participated in a guided walk to the memorial wall where they could pay their respects and reflect on the impact of the honored physicians.
