Weinbaum Award 2017 Recipient
Eugene Epplin, M.D. is a 1982 graduate of the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency and has practiced family medicine in Terre Haute since 1986. He returned to the Family Medicine Residency Program in 2011 as a faculty physician and has twice been awarded Educator of the Year by the residents.
Dr. Epplin's commitment to medical education and patient care is exemplified through his practice. He continues to make house calls and schedules visits after hours to take residents so they can learn how to incorporate home visits into their practice. In addition to his work at Union, Dr. Epplin donates his time by providing free physicals to firefights and other organizations, and has participated in medical mission trips abroad.
Baur Award 2017 Recipient
Wayne Hutson started his career at Union Hospital in 1977, he has served as the Chief Financial Officer for 40 years. His financial stewardship and contributions to Union's success are many and include securing financing for the construction of Union East, which opened in 2010. He continues to help shape Union Health as a fiscally stable community health system.
Wayne is well-known for his dedication as a fan of the Green Bay Packers; however, it pales in comparison to his devotion to Union, our employees and patients. He is always the first to volunteer or champion a cause within the organization and in our community. He volunteers his financial expertise to multiple organizations including Union Health Foundation, Hospice of the Wabash Valley, VNA, FSA Counseling Center, Community Theater of Terre Haute and Goodwill Industries.
